There is a saying that you can take the girl off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the girl. This born-and-bred farm girl will forever be a sucker for a barn. I insist on pulling over to photograph every red barn I’ve ever driven past here in New England.
One day you’ll find me in a white farmhouse raising chickens and bees and puddling around the stove all day. Until then I’ll plan any barn wedding you want to dream up.
One of my favorite ways to find smaller, more off-the-radar barn properties is to search rental home websites like Airbnb or VRBO. There are some gorgeous options out there owned by families that don’t have the budgets to market in the wedding space but are happy to rent their property for events.
When you’re looking at private properties like these for you barn wedding make sure you understand what is AND ISN’T included.

2. Are you drawn to more natural finishes?
If you find yourself drawn to wood and slate materials you’ll likely feel at home inside a barn wedding venue.
3. Does your wedding Pinterest board have lots of hung decor inspiration?
Barns typically have lots of beams making it fairly easy to hang decor elements.
4. Are you expecting more than 100 guests?
The beams in barns are stunning but can make floor plans more limiting. Before you make a long drive to visit a potential barn wedding venue be clear on their capacity limits.
5. Do you have a lot of out-of-town guests?
Typically barn wedding venues are in more rural areas where there may not be as many hotel options. This is something to consider if a large percentage of your guests will be flying in for the celebration.
