Spring Wedding Trends

Before we chat Spring Wedding Trends I want to take you back to the beginning. When I first started planning weddings I had just left a corporate advertising job. A job I loved at times but day-to-day was just not filling me up the way I dreamed.

My office became the dining room table of my very small apartment.

My staff was two amazing interns; Amanda and Jack.  I’m sure they both thought I was out of my mind but walked up my building’s five flights of stairs to “the office” with a smile on their faces

Sitting around that dining room table one of my favorite parts of the job (and still is to this day) is pouring over interior design & fashion magazines and wedding inspiration boards predicting where the next wedding trends will come from and how we can personalize them to incorporate into our clients’ events.

S0 18 days into 2019 here’s what I’m most excited to see come to life this year. PSA: This particular inspiration board is just that INSPIRATION. Many of the images are over the top. The idea is too showcase what is possible and inspire you #girlbossbrides to find something you love and make it your own.

My number one rule when it comes to trends. You do YOU.

Floral Spring Wedding Trends

1. Tall Centerpieces. Couples and venues have realized that when it comes to table conversation you are mostly talking to the people next to you, not across from you. Full, lush tall centerpieces are going to have their moment, even if they block some sight lines. Weather candles, florals or some type of prop, if you’re spending money on it make it impactful.
2. Dried Pampas Grass. Mandy Moore’s adorable wedding celebration catapulted this material to wedding Instagram stardom. Natural or dyed it’s a Boho bride’s dream. I fear this is something that will be overdone this year and then DONE so enjoy it while it’s here.
3. Fresh Fruit Accents. This is something wedding designer powerhouse Mindy Weiss has done for years and I think is going to catch on in a big way. As you look for ways to incorporate depth and texture to your day reach for the produce section. If you’re DIYing this one and plan to use live fruit think ahead and treat for spoilage. My secret (shh!) Petroleum jelly.

Venue Spring Wedding Trends

1. Industrial Venues. I love a great barn wedding but we may have overdone it. Instead, we’re seeing a lot more industrial raw spaces and even black box theatres which can be completely transformed. If you’re reading this and have a barn booked please don’t panic! Maybe scale back on the other rustic details like mason jars and wine barrels. Bottom line. You do YOU.
2. Eco and Socially Conscious Elements. I’ve had more and more couples ask me to keep the environment in mind in my design. I fully embrace doing away with plastic strays and am seeing less printed material on the day-of. Ask your venue what their policies are and what you can adapt. One of my favorite things to do is donate leftover food following an event. In most cities, there are non-profits dedicated to event food rescue. Google your city or reach out to a local NACE chapter to explore your options.

Wedding Style Spring Wedding Trends

1. Gowns with Bows and Polka Dots. Polka Dots?!!! We may need a new word to describe the fabulousness I’m seeing with this trend because your kindergarten polka dots they are not. I am loving this most on embellished gowns, and VEILS. Veils are most certainly having a comeback moment.
2. Dressed To The Nine’s Flower Girls: Maybe this is a personal trend because my sweet girl gets to be a flower girl 2x this year! It seems like extra special attention is being paid to what the littlest of lovelies wear down the aisle.
3. French Twist. The classic hairstyle is coming back. I predict fewer brides will be wearing their hair down this season and instead will be putting a new spin on the twist.

Decor Spring Wedding Trends

1. Use of Pattern. Since the day my mother wallpapered our entire house (including the heating vents) back in 1992 I have LOVED the pattern. It can be playful. It can be whimsical. It can be dramatic. In 2019 I’m embracing bold oversized patterns to create WOW factors. This is not the year to be shy. Go for it.
2. Saturated Tones. Move aside blush. 2019 is going to be the year of color! This may be the trend that has me doing the biggest happy dance. Embracing color instantly adds drama to your day in a way that pastels just can’t. One burgundy Dahlia makes the impact of a dozen blush ranunculus.
